Digital Futures and Open Data Play event
The community is invited to a Digital Futures and Open Data Play Day on Friday 27th November, at Devonport High School for Boys in Plymouth. Hosted by Devonport High School for Boys with support from RIO and other partner organisations, the day will give the community a chance to find out more about the digital sector, and engage with those working in the field.
The digital sector is a rapidly growing sector, which is having more and more influence in the economy. School groups across Plymouth are being invited to attend, from Years 7 – 13, though the event is particularly useful for post 16 students.
The day will be broken into two parts. During the first part of the session, the event will introduce students to some exciting digital developments across the city, including the development of plans for Devonport Market Hall, which is to become a digital innovation centre for the community. Organisations in the digital industry will also get the chance to discuss what they love about working in the sector.
In the second half of the session, students will find out more about open data, working in groups to explore the latest data sets that have been released by Plymouth City Council and experiment with how this data can be used.
By the end of the day, young people will have really explored digital developments, and will have thought of some interesting digital concepts for how data can be used. They’ll also be able to find out more about the Digital Futures leadership programme.
